Help in the app, the Get started list and guided tours
Use the ? icons beside controls, the Get started list on your dashboard and the guided tours, and start, resume or replay a tour from Help.
When you're done, you know where to find quick help while you work, and how to take, pause and replay a guided tour.
Who this is for: everyone. The ? icons are on every page. The Get started list and the tours are for account owners with a plan, in their own workspace. Students get their own short tour on the course pages.
The ? icons
A small ? sits beside many labels and buttons. Point at it, tab to it, or tap it on a phone, and it says in a sentence or two what that control does (1). Learn more (2) opens the guide about it in a new tab, so nothing you're editing is lost.
Press Escape, click somewhere else or move away to close it.
The Get started list
On your dashboard, Get started lists the first things to do, with how many are done, for example "0 of 5 done":
- Connect your OpenRouter key
- Create your first Chirp
- Publish a Chirp as Unlisted or Public
- Share a Chirp and get your first visitor chat
- With Creator, Business or Academy: Make a Collection. With Business, also Add a workspace for a client or project. With Academy, also Make your first course.
A step is ticked when your account has really done it, not when you've visited a page. Each open step has a button to the right page. Until you have a Chirp, two shortcuts are there too: I'm moving an existing GPT opens Import, and I'm building my first Chirp opens a new Chirp.
Under the list:
- Start guided tour (1): see Take a guided tour.
- Do it myself (2): hides the list. "Hidden. Tours are always in Help."
- Show this again later (3): hides it until tomorrow. "We'll show this again tomorrow."
The list goes away by itself once every step is done.
Take a guided tour
A tour walks you through the real pages. Each step points at a control with an outline and a small card beside it: "Step 2 of 8", what the control is for, and Learn more (1). Use Next (2) and Back to move, or Skip tour. The last step has Finish.
- A tour only points things out. It never saves, sends, invites or publishes anything for you.
- It opens the right page itself. On steps about a Chirp, it opens the one you're editing, or your most recently changed one.
- If the control isn't there, for example before you've made a Chirp, the card shows in the middle of the screen with "You'll find this on a Chirp's page once you've made one." You can carry on.
- Close it any time with the X or Escape. Your place is kept.
- On a phone, the card sits at the bottom of the screen.
The tours:
- Get your first Chirp live (every plan): the dashboard, your OpenRouter key, creating, testing, knowledge, publishing, sharing, and where help is.
- Creator tools (Creator, Business and Academy): workspaces, Collections, who can chat, lead forms and leads.
- Client work (Business): a workspace per client, your team, and handing a workspace over.
- Your Academy (Academy): your Academy, courses, lessons, the tutor, quizzes and trying a course as a student.
The plan tours are best after Get your first Chirp live. When your plan changes, a tour you haven't taken shows on the Get started list as "New for your plan", with Start this tour. It never starts by itself, and tours you've finished stay finished.
Start, resume or replay a tour from Help
Open Help in the menu. Guided tours lists the tours for your plan, each with where you are, for example "Stopped at step 4 of 8", and a button: Start, Resume (step 4) or Replay.
If you hid the Get started list and it isn't finished, Show the Get started list on the dashboard again brings it back.
In a workspace someone shared with you, tours use your own workspace: "Tours use your own workspace. Switch to it in the menu to take one."
For students
On an Academy's course pages, students see "New here? Take a quick tour" the first time, with Take the tour and No thanks, and a Take a tour button after that. The tour shows the lessons, the tutor, quizzes and certificates. Their browser remembers it, as they have no Chirp Builder account.
Good to know
- The help text comes from these guides' own records, so a ? and its guide say the same thing.
- Nothing here costs anything. Tours don't send messages to your Chirps or use your OpenRouter key.
