The Academy: courses with AI tutors
The Academy plan turns what you know into courses with lessons, AI tutors, quizzes, student progress and certificates.
The Academy plan adds a school to your Chirp Builder account. You build courses out of lessons, give each course one of your Chirps as its AI tutor, add students and see how they're getting on. Students who finish a course can get a certificate.
Who can do this: accounts on the Academy plan. The account owner sets up the Academy; editors you invite can build courses and add students.
What a course is made of
- Lessons, grouped into modules. A lesson can hold text, videos from your video host, audio, PDFs and worksheets, links, and suggested questions for the tutor. See Write a lesson.
- An AI tutor. One of your Chirps answers students' questions about the lesson they're on. See Give a course an AI tutor.
- Quizzes at the end of a lesson. Chirp Builder grades them; the AI never does. See Build a quiz.
- A certificate with its own check page, if you turn it on. See Certificates.
The Academy page
Click Academy in the menu. At the top (1) are your Academy's name, how many students it has, and its link with Copy and Open. Below are four tabs (2):
- Courses: create a course, open one, or change the order they're listed in.
- Learning paths: put published courses in order, as one program. See Learning paths.
- Reports: progress, completions, quiz scores and students who have gone quiet. See Reports and student records.
- Certificate: the certificate design for every course. See Certificates.
How students take part
Students don't need a Chirp Builder account. They open your Academy's pages, sign in with their email address and a code we email them, and study in their browser. See Your Academy's pages for students.
Each workspace has its own Academy, and the Academy plan includes 3 workspaces. Tutor answers and AI quiz drafts use your OpenRouter key, like your Chirps' chats: see What OpenRouter is, and who pays for what.
