Ask Chirp Builder, the AI help assistant
Ask a question in your own words and get short steps from the Help Center guides, with links to them. What it can and can't do, what happens to your questions, and how to reach a person.
When you're done, you know how to ask Ask Chirp Builder a question, how to read its answer, and when to ask a person instead.
Who this is for: everyone with a plan (a free trial counts), and team members working in a workspace that's part of a paying account's plan. Students of an Academy have their own version, Ask for help.
Ask a question
- Open Ask Chirp Builder in the menu, under Help. On the Help page, Ask a question on the Ask Chirp Builder card opens it too.
- Type your question in the box that says "Ask about Chirp Builder", in your own words and in any language. Press Enter or click the arrow button to send it (Shift+Enter adds a new line). Or click one of the questions under Suggested for this page: it's sent straight away.
- The answer appears as it's written. While it's writing, the arrow becomes a square: click it to stop.
The answer gives short steps with the app's own button names. Each [1], [2] links to the part of the guide it came from, and Sources (1) lists those guide sections. The links in an answer open in a new tab, so nothing you're editing is lost.
Ask a follow-up in the same box: it remembers the last few questions. On a computer the panel opens on the right and you can keep using the page beside it; on a phone it fills the screen. Close it with the X.
What it can and can't do
- It answers from the published Help Center guides only. When the guides don't cover something, it says so instead of guessing: "I couldn't find this in the Chirp Builder guides, so I won't guess." Try other words, or ask a person.
- It knows some facts about your account, so the answer fits you: your plan (and a trial's end date), what your plan includes and its limits, whether your OpenRouter key is connected (never the key itself), your role in the workspace you're in and in workspaces shared with you, how many Chirps the workspace has and how many are published, and the page you're on. If something needs another plan, it says which.
- It can't see your content or change anything. It doesn't see your Chirps' instructions, chats, files, leads, students or billing, and it never clicks, saves or publishes for you. It explains how and links to the guide.
- It only helps with Chirp Builder. Other questions get "I can only help with using Chirp Builder".
- It's an AI, so it can make mistakes. Check the guide it links to before you change something important.
Was it helpful?
Under each answer, Was this helpful? (2) has Yes and No. With No, you can say What was missing? (optional), and tick Send my question to the Chirp Builder team to improve the guides. Then click Send feedback.
Ask a person
Ask a person, under the question box, turns the conversation into an Ask us request. It fills in the Subject and Message from your conversation, and What it's about from the page you're on. Edit or remove anything you don't want to send, then click Send request. We reply by email and on your Help page. See Ask us for help.
Working in someone else's workspace without a plan of your own? You can ask Ask Chirp Builder, but a request to a person can only be about plans and billing. Ask the workspace's owner to write to us about anything else.
Your questions and your privacy
- Don't paste passwords, API keys or card numbers. If a question looks like it holds one, it isn't sent: "That looks like a password, key or card number. Take it out, then send your question."
- What goes to the AI: your question, the last few questions and answers, the account facts above and the guide sections it found. They go to AI model providers through OpenRouter, on Chirp Builder's own account. It's free for you and never uses your OpenRouter key.
- The conversation is kept in this browser tab (the last 20 messages) until you click Clear conversation or close the tab.
- Chirp Builder keeps a record of each question, linked to your account, without its text: when it was asked, the page you were on, which guides the answer used, whether it was answered, your Yes or No, and what it cost. These records are deleted after 400 days. The text of a question is kept only when no guide answered it, or when you send it with your feedback, with passwords and keys removed, for 30 days, to improve the guides. A What was missing? note is kept for 30 days too.
For students
On an Academy's My courses page and on its lesson pages, signed-in students have Ask for help. It answers from the guides for students and the general Help Center guides: signing in, lessons, quizzes, the tutor and certificates. Questions about the course's subject go to the course's AI tutor. For places, deadlines, grades or certificates, it points to the person who runs the course. A student's conversation is cleared from the browser tab when they sign out.
Good to know
-
The Help page card shows Ask Chirp Builder above Ask us.
Ask a question opens Ask Chirp Builder from the Help page. -
There's a limit on how many questions one person can ask: 8 a minute, 40 an hour and 120 a day (students 6, 20 and 60, and all the students of one Academy 300 a day). Too many in a minute: "That's a lot of questions in a minute. Please wait a moment and try again." Wait a minute and it opens up again.
-
It can pause for everyone for the rest of the day or month: "Ask Chirp Builder has answered all it can today. Please try again tomorrow." The guides and Ask us always work.
