What visitors see, and their conversations
How a Chirp's chat page works for the people who use it, and where their conversations are kept.
EveryoneFor: Visitors
When you're done, you know how the chat page works and where conversations are kept.
Who this is for: anyone chatting with a Chirp, and owners who want to know what their visitors get. No account is needed to chat.
The chat page
- Your chats are listed on the left, by Today, Previous 7 days and Older. New chat (1) starts another. On a phone, open the list with the menu button. Some Chirps don't show the list, and have a New chat button at the top instead.
- Before the first message, the page shows the Chirp's description, its greeting and welcome, and conversation starters to tap.
- Each answer has a copy button (2); the last one also has a regenerate button for a new answer. Answers may show the web pages they used or the files they searched, and pictures with Download.
- The message box (3): Enter sends, Shift+Enter starts a new line, and Stop ends an answer early. The paperclip attaches a file or picture, if the Chirp allows it.
- Some Chirps let you choose the AI model at the top, or have a button under the message box.
Where conversations are kept
- In your browser only. "Your chats are saved in this browser only." Chirp Builder doesn't keep the text, and the Chirp's owner can't read it. The owner sees counts, like how many messages were sent.
- Other devices don't see them, and clearing your browser's data deletes them. The bin next to a chat deletes it. They're kept per web address, so if the Chirp moves to a new address, earlier chats stay with the old one.
- To answer, each message is sent to the AI model, through OpenRouter. If the Chirp can look things up in other services (Actions), what's needed for that is sent to them too.
- In a chat on another website, nothing is kept: a conversation ends when you leave the page.
