A main address for a Chirp
Make a Chirp's links and website code use your own domain, and send its Chirp Builder link there.
When you're done, your Chirp's links point to your own domain.
Who can do this: the account owner on the Creator, Business or Academy plan, with a domain that's Connected in the Chirp's workspace and within the plan. Until then the box doesn't show. See Use your own domain.
Choose it
-
In the editor, under 8. Sharing, open Main address and choose your domain.
Pick one of your connected domains as the main address. -
Click Save. It applies straight away, with no publishing.
What changes
- Copy link gives
https://your-domain/its-web-address. - The code in Embed uses your domain.
- The Chirp Builder link sends visitors to your domain, an access code in the link included. The Share window still shows the Chirp Builder link, and it works: visitors end up on your domain.
Collections have the same Main address setting in their editor. Their address becomes
https://your-domain/collection/its-address.
Without a main address, the Chirp works at its Chirp Builder link and on each of the workspace's domains. The editor lists those as "On your domain: …".
Good to know
- Browsers remember the switch. If you later change or clear the main address, people who visited before may be sent to the old address for a while.
- Removing the domain clears the main address, and website code that uses the domain stops working.
- It's ignored while the domain isn't connected, when it falls outside your plan's domains, or if your plan changes to Essentials.
- Moving the Chirp to another workspace clears it: see Move a Chirp to another workspace.
