Put a Chirp on your website

Copy one line of code to show your Chirp as a chat button or a chat box on your own website.

EssentialsCreatorBusinessAcademyFor: Account owner, Workspace admin, Editor, Viewer

When you're done, your Chirp's chat is on your website.

Who can do this: anyone on any plan who can open the Chirp in the editor. Pasting the code into your site needs access to your website's settings.

Get the code

  1. Publish the Chirp first (Unlisted or Public). Embeds always show the published version.

  2. Click Embed at the top of the editor.

  3. Choose how it appears (1):

    • Floating chat button: a button in the corner opens the chat. Set its Button text, Position (Bottom right or Bottom left) and Button color.
    • Inline chat: the chat sits inside your page. Set its Width and Height, with a unit, like 100% or 600px.
  4. Click Copy (2) next to Your code.

Choose how it appears (1), then copy your code (2).
  5. Paste it into your website:

    • Floating button: before the closing </body> tag, or in your site's footer code setting.
    • Inline chat: where the chat should appear. If your site doesn't allow scripts, use the code under No scripts allowed? Use this instead.

Where to paste it on WordPress, Squarespace, Wix and others in the window has steps for each.

Click Preview the embedded chat to see it on its own, at its Chirp Builder address.

The chat as it sits inside your website.

What visitors get

  • The same chat as on your Chirp's page, without the list of earlier chats: a conversation ends when they leave the page. Reset starts a new one.
  • An access code, a sign-in and lead forms all work inside it.

Good to know

  • There's nothing secret in the code. Replies run on Chirp Builder and use your OpenRouter key.
  • You don't need new code after changes. Publish your changes and the embed shows them.
  • Anyone can embed a published Chirp if they know its address, and its replies use your key. Daily limits are your protection: see Visitor limits and pausing a Chirp.
  • With a main address, the code the account owner copies uses your own domain: see A main address for a Chirp. Team members get the Chirp Builder address, which works too. If you later remove the domain, code that uses it stops working.

If it doesn't work

  • The chat says "Chirp not found": the Chirp is a draft or archived.
  • The chat says "This Chirp is taking a short break": it's paused.
  • "This Chirp is temporarily unavailable. Please check back later." The account's plan has ended, or the Chirp's workspace isn't in the plan.
  • "This Chirp isn't connected to an AI service yet." No OpenRouter key is saved: see Connect your OpenRouter key.
  • Your width or height is ignored: add a unit, like 480px or 70vh.
