Workspaces: what they are and how many each plan has

A workspace keeps one client's, brand's or project's Chirps, leads and settings apart, and your plan decides how many you have.

EssentialsCreatorBusinessAcademyFor: Account owner

When you're done, you know what a workspace keeps apart and how many your plan gives you.

Who this is for: account owners on any plan. More than one workspace comes with Creator, Business and Academy.

What a workspace is

A workspace is a separate area of your account for one client, brand or project. Your workspaces are in Settings, under Workspaces, each with its number of Chirps and the OpenRouter key it uses.

Each workspace, with its Chirps and the OpenRouter key it uses.

Each workspace has its own:

The whole account shares:

  • your plan and billing
  • your account's OpenRouter key (in AI provider: OpenRouter), which every workspace without a key of its own uses
  • knowledge storage, and the number of custom domains your plan includes
  • builder seats, and each team member's role
  • event webhooks, and your public profile page.

Every account has a Main workspace, marked Main. You can rename it, but you can't delete it or hand it over, and it always uses your account's OpenRouter key.

On Essentials, the card says "The Creator and Academy plans include 3 workspaces, and Business includes 10." Plans aren't on sale online yet. Billing says "To get one now, email joanaltres@dfydata.com." See Compare plans and prices.

Essentials has one workspace.

When your plan has fewer workspaces than you have

If your plan changes to one with fewer workspaces, nothing is deleted. Your main workspace and your oldest other workspaces keep working, up to the new number. The rest are marked Paused, with "This workspace isn't included in your current plan, so its Chirps don't answer visitors. Upgrade, move its Chirps to a workspace that works, or delete a workspace you don't need."

In a paused workspace:

  • Its Chirps don't answer. Visitors see "This Chirp is temporarily unavailable. Please check back later."
  • You can't add Chirps or Collections there, or move Chirps into it.
  • You can still open it and move its Chirps to a workspace that works: see Move a Chirp to another workspace.

When your plan includes it again, or you delete an older workspace you don't need, it works again within about a minute.

Good to know

  • One plan covers every workspace. There's no separate plan or bill per workspace.
  • Workspaces shared with you don't count. A workspace someone else shares with you belongs to their account, not yours. See Working in a workspace someone shared with you.
  • Your public profile page shows Public Chirps from all your workspaces, except a workspace with full white label.
  • To make, rename, open or delete workspaces, see Create, rename, switch and delete workspaces.

If it doesn't work

  • "This workspace is paused on your current plan. Use another workspace, or upgrade." You tried to make a Chirp or Collection in a paused workspace. Switch to another workspace first.
  • "This workspace isn't included in your current plan, so its Chirps don't answer visitors. Upgrade, move its Chirps to a workspace that works, or delete a workspace you don't need." This banner on the dashboard means the workspace you're in is paused.
