Accept a workspace handoff

See what's in a workspace someone is handing over to you, choose where it goes in your account, and accept or decline it.

EssentialsCreatorBusinessAcademyFor: Account owner

When you're done, the workspace someone built for you is in your own Chirp Builder account, running on your plan and your OpenRouter key.

Who this is for: anyone who got a handoff email. To accept, you need a Chirp Builder plan of your own (any plan). Afterwards, the Chirps answer with your own OpenRouter key.

Open the handoff

The email comes from Chirp Builder, with the subject "… is handing "…" over to you". Click the link in it. It works for 14 days.

The page says ""…" is ready for you" and who is handing it over, with their note if they wrote one. If you aren't signed in: "Sign in, or create an account, with the email address this was sent to. You'll see exactly what's in it before you accept." Click Create an account or I already have an account; either way you come back to this page.

See what's in it

What comes to you, and what stays with the sender.

The lists show what that workspace has. They can include:

  • What you get: the Chirps (published ones keep their web addresses), knowledge files, saved versions, history and analytics, Collections, folders, leads and lead forms, access settings, and the workspace's branding and custom domains.
  • Doesn't move: email service connections, the sender's OpenRouter key, the sender's team, and their billing, account key and other workspaces. Lead webhooks come along switched off, for you to check, and Actions need your own API keys.

"Once it's yours, it runs on your Chirp Builder plan, and the Chirps answer with your own OpenRouter key, so AI usage is billed to your OpenRouter account. The sender no longer has access."

Choose where it goes, and accept

  1. Under Where should it go?, choose (1):
    • A new workspace called "…", with its own branding. This needs a free workspace on your plan. Otherwise it's greyed out with, for example, "Your plan has 1 workspace, all in use, so the Chirps go into one of yours."
    • Into my workspace "…", one for each of your workspaces (your main one says "(main)"). Its Chirps, folders, Collections, custom domains and leads go into that workspace, without the incoming branding. A folder with the same name as one of yours gets "(2)" added.
  2. Read any notes under the choices. They say what arrives but won't work on your plan yet.
  3. Click Accept the workspace (2). After "Moving it over…", your Chirps page opens in the workspace it went into.
Choose where it goes (1), then accept (2) or decline (3).

To say no, click Decline (3) and confirm "Decline this handoff? The sender keeps the workspace." You see "You declined it. Nothing changed in your account."

After accepting

Good to know

  • A new workspace keeps its name. If you already have a workspace with that name, a number is added, for example "Harbor Dental 2".
  • Your own key comes along. If you had added your own OpenRouter key to that workspace as a member of the sender's team, it stays with it when you accept it as a new workspace.
  • Notes about your plan you may see: "… Collection pages come along but stay unavailable until you're on Creator, Business or Academy.", "Some Chirps ask visitors for a password or email. They keep doing that, but changing those settings needs Creator, Business or Academy; you can switch them to open.", "The workspace's branding (logo, theme, font) needs Creator, Business or Academy. Until then the pages use the standard look." and "Your plan includes 1 custom domain; domains beyond that are paused."

If it doesn't work

  • "Accepting needs a Chirp Builder plan, because these Chirps answer with your own OpenRouter key. Choose a plan, then come back to this page." Plans aren't on sale online yet: to get one now, email joanaltres@dfydata.com. See Compare plans and prices.
  • "The knowledge files need … MB, and your plan has … MB left. Upgrade or remove some files first."
  • "This workspace has Academy courses or students, which can't be handed over. Ask the sender to remove them first, then open this link again."
  • "This handoff isn't waiting anymore" with "The link has expired. Ask for a new one." or "It may have been accepted, declined or cancelled already." Ask the sender to click Send again.
  • "You're signed in as …, but this handoff was sent to …" Click Log out and use …, then sign in with the address the handoff was sent to.
  • "This handoff is for …. Sign in with that email address to see it."
  • "This handoff link has expired. Ask for a new one." or "This handoff isn't waiting anymore. Ask for a new one."
  • "That's your own handoff."
  • "Couldn't complete the handoff."
