Ask the course tutor

Ask the AI tutor beside each lesson to explain, give examples or help you practise.

EveryoneFor: Students

When you're done, you've had your question about the lesson answered.

Who this is for: students, on courses where the teacher has added a tutor.

Ask a question

The tutor is on the right of the lesson (on a phone, the Tutor tab). Type your question in Ask your tutor… and press Enter. Or tap one of the suggested questions in the lesson, and it's sent to the tutor for you.

The tutor answers questions about the lesson you're on.

The tutor knows the lesson you're on and what your teacher gave it. It explains, gives examples and helps you practise. It can't mark lessons complete, and it doesn't see quiz answers or other students. AI answers can be wrong, so check anything important with the lesson or your teacher.

Good to know

  • Your conversation stays on this device. Chirp Builder doesn't keep it, and your teacher can't read it. Each lesson has its own conversation; the arrow button at the top of the panel (Start over) clears it.
  • During a quiz, the teacher decides: the tutor may work as usual, give hints but not the answers, or stay off until you submit. See Take a quiz.
  • There are limits: up to 40 questions an hour and 150 a day. Your teacher can also set daily limits for the tutor, for each student and for everyone together. If you reach one, the tutor says so; your lessons still work. Daily limits start again at midnight UTC.
  • "This lesson has no tutor." Your teacher hasn't added one to this lesson.
  • "The AI tutor isn't available right now." Try again later. Your lessons and progress still work.

Your questions are sent to an AI provider to answer them: see Your account and your data.
