Add videos, audio, files and links

Upload worksheets and PDFs to a course, show videos from your video host, and add audio and links to lessons.

AcademyFor: Account owner, Workspace admin, Editor

When you're done, your lessons have their videos, worksheets, PDFs, audio and links where students need them.

Who can do this: the account owner and editors, on the Academy plan.

Upload files first

A lesson can only use files you've uploaded to its course.

  1. Open the course and click the Files tab.
  2. Click Upload files and pick one or more files.
Upload a lesson's files here first.
  • Lessons can offer PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OpenDocument, text, Markdown, CSV, RTF, EPUB and ZIP files, images (PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF) and audio (MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, AAC). Video files can't be uploaded: see below.
  • Each file can be up to 50 MB, and course files count toward your account's 10 GB of storage. A course can hold up to 200 files.
  • Only students with a place on the course can open the files, through links that expire.
  • The list shows how many lessons use each file, and whether the published version uses it. To delete a file, take it out of every lesson first. If the published version still uses it, publish the course without it before you delete it.

Show a PDF or offer a download

  1. In the lesson, click File or PDF.
  2. Choose the uploaded file (1). Give it a Title (optional) if you like.
  3. For a PDF, turn on Show the PDF in the lesson (2) to show it in the page; students can still download it. Other files, images included, are offered as a download.
  4. Click Save lesson.
Pick an uploaded file (1); for a PDF, this switch (2) shows it in the page.

Add a video

Chirp Builder doesn't store video files. Upload your video to YouTube, Vimeo, Loom, Wistia, Bunny Stream, Cloudflare Stream or Mux, then:

  1. In the lesson, click Video.
  2. Paste the video's link into Video link: for YouTube, Vimeo, Loom and Wistia, the link from the Share button; for Bunny Stream, Cloudflare Stream and Mux, the embed or player link. Add a Caption (optional) if you like.
  3. Click Save lesson.
Paste the video's link from your video host.

The video plays inside the lesson. Anyone who has the video host's own link can still watch it there, so use your video host's privacy settings if that matters to you.

Add audio

Click Audio, then choose:

  • Uploaded file: an audio file from the Files tab.
  • Link: an https link to an MP3 (or M4A, WAV, OGG or AAC) file, or a SoundCloud or Spotify episode link.

Click Link and fill in the web address, a Title and, if you like, a Note (optional). Students see that the link opens outside the course.

New blocks reach students when you publish the course again.
