What MCP is, and moving GPTs with Claude or ChatGPT

Connect Claude, ChatGPT or another AI app to Chirp Builder, and it can move your Custom GPTs and build Chirps for you.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a standard way for AI apps to use other services. Once you connect your AI app to Chirp Builder, you can ask it in plain words to move your Custom GPTs, build new Chirps, add files or check how a Chirp answers. It works in Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code and Codex.

Import: connect your AI app with this address.

How moving your GPTs works

The Import page in your dashboard has the three steps:

  1. Connect your AI app. Add the address shown, https://www.chirpbuilder.com/mcp, to your AI app as a custom connector, then sign in to Chirp Builder when it asks. Copy puts the address on your clipboard.
  2. Give it the import instructions. Put each GPT in its own folder on your computer: its instructions, conversation starters, picture and knowledge files. If you like, type where those folders are in the box beside the button, so the instructions name it. Click Copy instructions and paste them into a chat with your AI app. In apps that show a prompt menu, you can pick Import Custom GPTs instead.
  3. Check, test and publish. Every Chirp arrives as a draft that only you can see. Open each one to check it, or ask your AI app to test it. Nothing is published unless you say so. If a GPT is already in your account, your AI app asks you before importing it again as a copy.

ChatGPT doesn't let you download a GPT's knowledge files, so use your own copies. Your AI app reads the files on your computer; Chirp Builder never sees your computer.

What carries over

The Import page lists it:

  • Carries over: name and description, instructions, conversation starters, profile picture, knowledge files (your own copies), web search and image creation, and Actions from their OpenAPI schema (add their API keys again).
  • Doesn't carry over: Actions that move money, API keys and app secrets (add them again), Code Interpreter (running code), Canvas and ChatGPT memory. Your AI app tells you when a GPT used any of these.

Good to know

  • Your AI app works only with your Chirp Builder account, and only after you sign in and allow it. You'll find every app you've connected under Connected apps.
  • Prefer not to use an AI app? Build Chirps by hand instead: Your first Chirp in 10 minutes.
