Publish, update or unpublish a Chirp
Choose who can open your Chirp, publish your changes when they're ready, or take it offline.
When you're done, visitors see exactly the version of your Chirp you meant them to see.
Who can do this: the account owner on any plan, and workspace admins. Editors can publish if the owner allows it.
Who can see it
Under 8. Sharing, choose:
- Draft: only you (and anyone working in your workspace). Every new Chirp starts here.
- Unlisted: anyone with the link.
- Public: anyone, and the Chirp is listed on your public profile.
Choosing Unlisted or Public for a draft and clicking Save publishes it straight away.
Publish your changes
Once a Chirp is published, your edits stay private when you save. That lets you change things and test them in the preview without visitors noticing.
-
Make your changes and click Save.
-
A bar at the top says Visitors still see the published version, and lists what isn't published yet, such as "description".
Discard (1) throws your edits away; Publish changes (2) shows them to visitors. -
To throw the changes away and go back to what visitors see now, click Discard (1) and confirm.
-
When you're ready, click Publish changes (2). Chirp Builder says Published. Visitors see your changes now.
Each publish also saves a copy you can go back to: see Go back to an earlier version.
What changes straight away
A few settings apply as soon as you click Save, without publishing: who can open the Chirp, the access code, Pause this Chirp and the daily visitor limits. Knowledge files also apply as soon as you add or remove them.
Share it
Click Share at the top of the editor (or on the Chirp's card) to copy its link. The window also has Who can open it, which changes the setting straight away. To see the chat as visitors do, click Open public page at the top of the editor (or Open on the card).
Unpublish
Choose Draft under 8. Sharing and click Save, or choose Draft in the Share window. Visitors who open the link then see Chirp not found. Publish it again any time.
To keep a Chirp but take it out of your list, archive it instead: see Duplicate, archive or delete a Chirp.
If it doesn't work
- You can't choose Unlisted or Public. If you work in someone else's workspace, your role may not include publishing: "Your role doesn't include publishing. The account owner can publish it, or let you publish."
- "This account can't publish Chirps right now. Drafts still save." The account has been suspended. Ask us through Help.
- "Choose a Chirp Builder plan to create or change Chirps." The account needs an active plan.
- Visitors don't see your change. Look for the bar at the top of the editor and click Publish changes.
