When you're done, your AI app can work on your Chirp Builder account: move your Custom GPTs, build
Chirps and test them, within the limits you choose.

**Who can do this:** the account owner. Any plan can connect; building Chirps needs a plan.

**What you'll need:** an AI app that supports custom connectors (also called MCP servers), such as
Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code or Codex.

## Connect your app

1. In Chirp Builder, open **Settings** and find **Connect your AI app** (it's also step 1 on the
**Import** page). Click **Copy** to copy the address, `https://www.chirpbuilder.com/mcp`.

![The Connect your AI app card in Settings: the address https://www.chirpbuilder.com/mcp with a Copy button, and the Connected apps list.](https://mjmtbasmrtksluvlnema.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/help-media/web-optimized/chirps/connect-ai-app/SS-CHIRP-100-01__settings-card__essentials__detail__v01.webp?v=d9baa792ac)

2. Add the address to your AI app as a custom connector:
   - **Claude:** in its settings, add a custom connector (**Settings**, then **Connectors**, then **Add
custom connector**) and paste the address.
   - **Claude Code:** run `claude mcp add --transport http chirpbuilder https://www.chirpbuilder.com/mcp`
   - **ChatGPT, Codex and other apps:** look for adding a custom connector or MCP server in the app's
settings, and paste the same address. The steps differ from app to app and change over time.
3. Your AI app opens a Chirp Builder page. Log in if it asks.
4. On **Connect (app)?**, choose what it may do (1), then click **Allow** (2). The page starts on
**Create, edit and publish**; pick a lower level if you prefer.

5. You're sent back to your AI app, which is now connected. Try asking it: "List my Chirps."

## What the app may do

- **Read only:** see your Chirps, their Actions and your plan. No changes.
- **Create and edit:** also create, import, edit and test Chirps, and add or remove their knowledge
files, Actions and picture. It can't publish or delete Chirps, or change who can open one.
- **Create, edit and publish:** everything, including publishing and deleting Chirps. Chirp Builder
tells the app to check with you before it publishes, but it relies on the app to do so.

Whichever you choose, the app never sees your password, billing details, API keys or anyone else's
Chirps.

## Change or remove a connection

Your connected apps are listed under **Connected apps** in **Settings** (and on the **Import** page).
Change what an app may do with the menu beside it, or click **Disconnect**: it stops working with your
account straight away. See [Build and update Chirps with your AI app](https://www.chirpbuilder.com/help/chirps/build-with-ai-app).

## If it doesn't work

- **The app says it isn't signed in, or the connection expired.** Remove the connector in your AI app
and add it again; you'll go through the Chirp Builder sign-in once more.
- **The connection page says the request is missing or has expired.** Start again from your AI app.
- **The app says it can't make changes.** It has **Read only** or **Create and edit** access. Change it
  under **Connected apps** in **Settings**.
- **"Choose a Chirp Builder plan to create or change Chirps."** Connecting works without a plan, but
  building doesn't.
