# Sign in to an Academy

> Sign in with your email and a 6-digit code we email you. No password.

When you're done, you're signed in to the Academy and can see your courses.

**Who this is for:** students. You don't need a password or a Chirp Builder account.

## Sign in

1. On the Academy's page, click **Sign in** at the top. (A course page says **Sign in to start**.)
2. Type your **Email** (1) and click **Send me a code** (2).

3. We email you a 6-digit code from the Academy. Type it in **Code**.
4. The first time, add **Your name (first time only)**. If your teacher hasn't already added your name,
   this is the name the Academy sees and puts on your certificates.
5. Click **Sign in**.

Use the same email your teacher has for you: your places on courses are linked to it.

## If it doesn't work

- **No email?** Check your spam or junk folder, and that you typed your address correctly. Then click
  **Use another email, or send a new code**.
- **"That code has expired."** A code works for 10 minutes. Ask for a new one.
- **"That code isn't right."** Check the latest email: a new code replaces the old one. After 5 wrong
  tries you see "Too many wrong codes": ask for a new code.
- **"Too many tries."** Only a few codes can be sent each hour. Wait up to an hour, then try again.
- **"This Academy isn't open right now."** The Academy is closed for the moment. Check back later, or
  contact your teacher.

## Staying signed in, and signing out

A sign-in lasts 30 days on that device and browser. Each Academy has its own sign-in. To sign out, click
**Sign out** at the top of **My courses**.
