# Turn a folder of materials into a course with your AI app

> Let Claude, ChatGPT or another AI app read your guides and worksheets and build a draft course, with quizzes, for you to check.

When you're done, a draft course is waiting in your Academy, built from your own materials, for you to
check and change before anyone sees it.

**Who can do this:** the account owner and editors, on the Academy plan, with an AI app connected to
Chirp Builder.

## Before you start

- Connect your AI app (Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code or Codex): see
[Connect Claude, ChatGPT or another AI app](https://www.chirpbuilder.com/help/chirps/connect-ai-app). Give it **Create and edit** access or
  more.
- Put the course's materials in one folder on your computer: your guides, worksheets, checklists,
slides, audio and any video links. Only use materials you own or have the right to teach with, such
as your own guides or PLR content whose license allows courses.

## Copy the instructions

1. On the **Academy** page, scroll to the bottom of the **Courses** tab.
2. Under **Turn a folder of materials into a course**, type where the folder is if you like, so the
   instructions name it.
3. Click **Copy instructions** and paste them into a chat with your AI app. In apps that show a prompt
menu, you can pick **Turn a folder into a course** instead.

![The section Turn a folder of materials into a course, with a box for the folder and the Copy instructions button.](https://mjmtbasmrtksluvlnema.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/help-media/web-optimized/academy-educators/from-a-folder/SS-ACAD-080-01__folder-to-course__academy__detail__v01.webp?v=f71410208c)

## What your AI app does

1. It reads the folder with its own file tools. Chirp Builder never sees your computer.
2. It suggests an outline first: modules, lessons, which files go where and where a quiz would help. It
waits for your OK or your changes.
3. It builds a draft course: lessons written from your guides, worksheets and PDFs on the right lessons,
video blocks from your video host's links, and suggested questions for the tutor.
4. It drafts short quizzes for you to review. The instructions ask it to make them count only if you
want them to, so check each quiz's **Must pass to complete the lesson** switch before you publish.
5. If the folder holds Custom GPTs or Chirps that fit, it can import them and make one the course's
   tutor.
6. It finishes with a report: the outline, the quizzes, what it couldn't use and why, and a link to the
   preview.

Video files can't be uploaded to a course, so the app notes them for you to put on a video host such as
YouTube or Vimeo. If something fails, ask it to try again in the same chat: it fixes what it made rather
than adding a copy.

## Check the course

Open the course from the **Courses** tab. If the app couldn't use some files, a note at the top,
**Made by an AI app import**, lists them. Read the lessons, [preview the course](https://www.chirpbuilder.com/help/academy-educators/preview) and change
anything you like.

Nothing is published and nobody is invited unless you clearly tell your AI app to, and it asks you again
before publishing. You can also [publish it yourself](https://www.chirpbuilder.com/help/academy-educators/publish).
